Nokia Siemens Networks has added packet data handling functionality to the company’s hiT 7300 DWDM platform to create a packet optical transport system (P-OTS). The P-OTS is designed to enable traffic to move more efficiently through an operator’s network, rather than needing to be processed by routers at each stage. This allows the network operator to address rising demand for bandwidth-intensive applications without having to undertake massive data traffic router capacity expansion, the company says. As a result, router resources can be dedicated to process higher-level, value-added services. |
