PCCW deploys Huawei’s 40G OTN equipment

Huawei says it has deployed 40-Gbps Optical Transport Network (OTN) equipment for PCCW of Hong Kong. This new 40-Gbps network will support higher bandwidth and more flexible service grooming features, Huawei asserts. The new 40G OTN network will include 80-wavelength 40G capacity, reconfiguration optical add/drop multiplexers (ROADMs), and optical and electrical cross-connection and grooming. Bandwidth per wavelength will increase 400% to provide a total transport capacity of 3.2 Tbps, Huawei says. Christian Chua, president of Huawei’s Transport Network Product Line, stated, "The increasing maturity and mass commercial use of 40G efficiently mitigates bandwidth pressures stemming from mass services.
