North State Communications taps Cisco ASR Series for network upgrade

Cisco says that North State Communications, a High Point, NC-based Internet, voice, data, and advanced television service provider, has selected Cisco ASR routers as its Carrier Ethernet systems as a part of a network upgrade. North State serves North Carolina's Piedmont Triad region, which has a population of more than 1.6 million and includes High Point, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem. The carrier’s interest in providing unified communications and collaboration services, such as Cisco TelePresence and telemedicine, as well as growth in mobile and video traffic has led to an expansion of North State's fiber optic network. Cisco asserts that IPv6 support serves as another major goal of the upgrade. North State will deploy Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers and Cisco ASR 1000 Series Aggregation Services Routers. The Cisco ASR 9000 Series, with a per-system capacity of up to 96 Tbps, can support such service as nonstop video while maintaining a reduced carbon footprint, the systems provider asserts. Royster Tucker, president and chief operation officer of North State Communications said, "North State's advanced fiber network is going directly to homes and businesses throughout the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina.
